Laughing Moon

The moonlight sidles into the pockets behind my lids

My heart races the wind and wins

Night holds no peace for me

Peace sits in the sky, perched atop the laughing moon,

gazing with interest at my fitful sleep…

Night sounds bury my thoughts

till my mind can’t breathe…

I roll over and brush up against no one

Peace watches as

moonlight moans

across the

expanse of crimson

beside me –

filling the space

with no invitation –

burlesquing my solitude,

searing my bare outstretched arm with its spark

my lines of life aflame

tickling flickers stalking each finger tip…

Peace transfixed by their wanton gyration…

The moonlight has had its way with me

Only now might I sleep…
